Coaching Insights

Shouldn’t “personal” mean “personal?”

Lately I’ve been at the gym at unusual times and I’ve now seen the same trainer at different times of day training different clients. Men and women. Ranging from 20s to 70s. And I’ve seen her do essentially the same program with all of them.

I’ve hired a number of coaches – a leadership coach, a personal wellness coach, and tried a few different therapists. I hired them and continued paying them specifically because it was personal, individualized, custom, and adapted for me and my own specific needs. One-size-fits-all rarely works in clothes, let alone your health, your career, your business, your goals.

I have totally different fitness goals than the person lifting weights next to me. I have different aspirations and challenges than another manager. Sure, fundamentals are fundamentals and that’s what courses can cover. But when it comes to extracting maximum performance, dismantling roadblocks, identifying your specific goal, nuance matters.

A great coach notices what’s unique about you and adapts. My fitness coach knows my chronic hip pain and when she notices my form is compensating, she reprograms an exercise. My job is to notice the hesitation in your voice, the way your face changes when you talk about what you love, or the same theme that keeps coming up.

We can read books, attend free webinars, join group classes and learn. But now that the generic stuff is generic. If what you want is truly personalized support, the right coach matters.

My clients benefit from my years of work in learning and development, leadership development, and performance management, but every one-on-one coaching conversation is distinctly unique. And every workshop, even if the fundamentals are the same, is its own creation.

In the internet-turned-AI world, generic answers to common career or leadership problems are easy to access. For some, that’s enough. But for high performers, it’s rarely sufficient.

I worked with Laura during one of the most difficult periods of my career. I was burnt out, had lost my passion, and felt like I was just going through the motions. I was at a crossroads considering law school or a nonprofit role, and I had no clarity on what I actually wanted. Through thoughtful questioning and helping me visualize different scenarios, she guided me to discover my own answers. I left our work together with genuine confidence in my decision and a renewed sense of purpose. If you’re facing a difficult time in your career, I’d highly recommend working with Laura.

Laura brings a rare combination of insight, challenge, and authenticity to her coaching. Laura has a natural ability to create trust, ask the right questions, and get to the root of difficult conversations in a way that leads to real clarity and growth.Through Laura’s coaching, I became more reflective as a leader, more self-aware, and more intentional about how I show up professionally. Laura consistently challenged me to think deeper, lead better, and not settle for surface-level answers. The impact of Laura’s coaching has been lasting, and I would strongly recommend Laura to any leader looking to grow in a genuine and meaningful way.

I took one of her management workshops and learned so much from the material she presented, but even more from the guided discussions and dialogue between Laura, myself, and my peers. I’d had management experience and leadership training before taking Laura’s course, but learned so much more about how I can fine tune my skills, better serve my employees, and more effectively apply my past experiences to my current and future roles. No matter how experienced you are, you WILL learn something from Laura and her skills as a facilitator turn the curriculum into a true learning experience.

Laura’s ability to navigate complex material with so many differing opinions and personality types is an incredibly unique skill.

Through our coaching conversations, I learned how to navigate complex team dynamics more productively, lead difficult conversations with confidence, and create stronger working relationships despite those differences. What I appreciated most about Laura's coaching was that it was not tied to a performance evaluation, a prescribed professional development plan, or organizational expectations. It was a space dedicated entirely to growth. Our sessions allowed me to process both immediate leadership situations and larger life decisions in a way that was thoughtful, honest, and actionable.

One of the most valuable investments I made in my leadership journey.

I lead an R&D team who supports our company’s technical understanding of the key markets that our customers participate in. Our team is very new to our roles and to industry itself. Laura greatly strengthened our team by facilitating multiple sessions that focused on better self-understanding and how our individual personalities come together as a cohesive group. In leading these discussions, I was impressed with how Laura could create the conversation and step back to allow the team to naturally move forward.

Through her coaching, I was able to understand my strengths and where best to apply them, identify my weaknesses and how to address them, but most importantly she mentored me through various techniques to become a well-rounded leader.

Laura taught me that there is no simple formula for effective leadership.
